How the Saudi end-of-service award is worked out

Saudi law uses your actual wage — basic salary plus fixed allowances such as housing and transport. You earn half a month's wage for each of your first five years and a full month for every year after. If your employer ends the contract you get the full amount. If you resign, Article 85 pays a fraction depending on how long you worked.

Actual wage: Basic salary plus fixed monthly allowances — not just basic, unlike the UAE.
Half / full month: Half a month's wage per year for years one to five, one month per year after that.
Art 85 fractions: If you resign: under 2 years nothing, 2–5 years one third, 5–10 years two thirds, 10+ years the full award.
Art 80: Dismissal for serious misconduct under Article 80 can remove the award entirely.

Under Article 85 you get nothing if you resign before 2 years, one third of the award between 2 and 5 years, two thirds between 5 and 10 years, and the full award after 10 years.

What if my employer terminates my contract?

How do I check the wage my employer will use?

Most private-sector contracts are documented on the Qiwa platform. Check that the basic salary and allowances recorded there match your payslip, since that's the figure the settlement will be worked from.

Are partial years counted?

Yes. Part of a year is paid in proportion to the time worked, so 4 years and 6 months counts as 4.5 years.
