What will my final settlement be when I leave?

What goes into a Gulf final settlement

A final settlement is the last payment an employer makes when your contract ends. It adds four things: your end-of-service gratuity under the country's labour law, the cash value of annual leave you've earned but not used, pay in lieu of any notice you don't work, and salary for days worked since your last payday. Each part uses its own daily rate.

Gratuity: The end-of-service lump sum based on salary and years of service — see the gratuity calculator for the formula.
Leave encashment: Unused leave days × the leave daily rate (basic ÷ 30 in the UAE; full wage ÷ 30 in Saudi Arabia and Oman).
Notice pay in lieu: Notice days not worked × full wage (basic + allowances) ÷ 30.
Unpaid salary: Days worked in the final month × full wage ÷ 30.

What this final settlement leaves out

Loans, salary advances and other deductions aren't subtracted.
Contract extras such as bonuses, commission and a return air ticket aren't included.
Which allowances count as 'fixed' can be disputed — use the figures on your payslip.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in a final settlement in the UAE?

Your end-of-service gratuity, pay for annual leave you've earned but not taken, notice pay if the notice period isn't worked, and salary for the days you worked in your final month. Any contractual extras — a bonus or an air ticket — come on top, and loans or advances can be deducted.

Is unused leave paid on basic or total salary?

It depends on the country. In the UAE unused leave is paid on basic salary. Saudi Arabia and Oman use your full wage including fixed allowances; Qatar is assumed to use basic. The calculator applies the right rate for the country you pick.

How is notice pay in lieu calculated?

If your notice isn't worked and the employer pays you for it instead, it's paid at your full wage — basic plus allowances — divided by 30, for each notice day not worked.

Does resigning change my final settlement?

Only the gratuity part, and only in Saudi Arabia, where resigning before 10 years pays a fraction of the award (nothing under 2 years). Leave pay and unpaid salary are owed however the job ends.

What if my final settlement is wrong or late?

Ask HR for the written breakdown and compare it line by line with this statement. If you can't agree, each country's labour ministry runs a complaints process — in the UAE through MOHRE, in Saudi Arabia through the Ministry of Human Resources.

Does DIFC pay gratuity in the final settlement?

No. DIFC employees get end-of-service savings through DEWS, which the plan pays out separately. The calculator shows an estimate of those contributions so you can see the whole picture.
