Screening Questions Generator

Which questions should applicants answer before you read their CV?

Enter a job title and the must-haves to get application screening questions with ideal answers and the knockouts marked, in English and Arabic. Paste them into your application form or ATS.

The AI uses these to tailor the draft. No personal data, please.

The template on the right updates as you type. AI drafting is free and limited per hour.

5. What is your expected monthly salary (SAR)? Number · Ideal answer: Within the budget for the role

How the screening questions are built

Each set covers what Gulf employers check first: relevant experience for the seniority you pick, location or willingness to relocate, right to work or sponsorship, notice period, expected monthly salary in the country's currency, one evidence question about relevant work and the languages the job needs. Every question has an answer type (yes/no, number or short text), an ideal answer and a knockout flag. The template version is fixed and works instantly; the AI version uses your key details (skills, shifts, licences, tools) to add role-specific questions.

Knockout
A must-have question: the wrong answer ends the application.
Ideal answer
What a suitable candidate would answer, so screeners score consistently.
Answer type
Yes/no, number or short text — match it to your application form's field types.
Notice period
How long the candidate must work for their current employer after resigning.

Use screening questions fairly

  • Mark as knockouts only the requirements you would never waive.
  • Ask every applicant the same questions in the same order, so you can compare answers.
  • Don't ask about age, marital status, family plans or religion. Nationals-preferred is fine where Emiratisation or Saudization applies.
  • AI drafts can be wrong about licences or certifications for your country — check anything regulatory before you publish.

After the screening questions

Turn your must-haves into a short pass/fail list with the knockout questions builder, call shortlisted applicants with the phone screen script, and check when they can start with the notice period & joining date checker. Need the job ad first? Use the job description generator.

Frequently asked questions

What are screening questions?

+

Short questions candidates answer when they apply, before anyone reads the CV in detail: years of experience, location, right to work, notice period, salary expectation and one or two must-have skills. They let you sort hundreds of applications quickly and fairly, because every applicant answers the same questions.

What is a knockout question?

+

A screening question where the wrong answer ends the application, for example 'Do you hold a valid UAE driving licence?' for a delivery role. Use knockouts only for genuine must-haves. Every extra knockout removes people who could have done the job, so most questions should inform the decision rather than decide it.

Can I ask about visa status in the Gulf?

+

Yes. Asking whether a candidate can already work in the country or will need your sponsorship is normal and useful for planning. Phrase it neutrally and ask everyone. Don't screen on age, marital status, religion or passport. A preference for UAE or Saudi nationals is lawful under Emiratisation and Saudization and can be stated openly.

Should I ask for salary expectations up front?

+

Asking early saves both sides time, especially in the Gulf where packages differ a lot between basic salary and allowances. Ask for the expected monthly figure and say whether you mean basic or total package. Treat it as information, not a knockout, unless the gap is clearly unbridgeable — then check it with the salary expectation tool.

Does the generator use AI?

+

A ready-to-edit template appears instantly and updates as you type. 'Generate with AI' writes a set tailored to your job title and key details. AI drafts are free and limited per hour and per day; if the limit is reached you still get the template. Don't put candidate personal data in the key details box.

Can I get the questions in Arabic?

+

Yes. Choose English, Arabic or Both. Bilingual screening questions help when you hire for Arabic-speaking customer-facing roles or want Arabic-first applicants to apply in their own language.

Every week this role stays open costs you. Post it free today.
