How the LinkedIn X-ray string is built
Every string starts with site:linkedin.com/in so Google only returns profile pages. Your job title and its synonyms go into one bracketed OR group, because the same job is called different things in the Gulf (Accountant, General Accountant, محاسب). Must-have skills follow as separate words, which Google treats as AND. Nice-to-have skills form a second OR group, cities and countries a third, and anything you exclude gets a minus sign. Finally the tool adds -intitle:jobs, -inurl:jobs, -inurl:dir and -inurl:posts so job ads, directory pages and posts don't crowd out real profiles. Multi-word phrases are quoted automatically, and the tool warns you when a string passes Google's 32-word limit or has unbalanced brackets.

Skills are examples of what Gulf employers commonly ask for in these roles (e.g. SCFHS licence for Saudi nurses, NEBOSH for HSE). Swap them for your own must-haves.
Limits to know
- Results depend on what Google has indexed: hidden or private profiles never appear, and new profiles take time to show.
- Profiles can be out of date. Confirm current employer, location and visa status in your first conversation.
- Don't automate it. Bots and scraping tools break LinkedIn's terms and can get your account restricted.
- Nationality, gender and age are not search filters you should use for most roles; for Emiratisation or Saudization roles, use our nationality strings and say 'nationals preferred' in the job ad.

X-ray search vs LinkedIn's own search
LinkedIn's search box understands the same Boolean words (AND, OR, NOT in capitals, quotes and brackets) and shows you how you're connected to each person, but free accounts see limited results outside their network. A Google X-ray reaches public profiles regardless of your network and costs nothing, but only covers what Google has indexed and has no filters for current company or years of experience. What is a LinkedIn X-ray search?
An X-ray search uses Google to search inside one website. Starting the query with site:linkedin.com/in tells Google to return only public LinkedIn profile pages, and the rest of the string (titles, skills, locations) filters those profiles. You see people you aren't connected to and avoid LinkedIn's limits on free searches, because the search runs on Google.
Is LinkedIn X-ray searching legal and allowed?
Typing a search into Google and reading public results is ordinary web searching. What LinkedIn's User Agreement forbids is scraping or automating access — bots, scripts or tools that copy profiles in bulk. Run searches by hand, open profiles one at a time, and handle what you find under the data-protection law that applies to you (the UAE's Federal Decree-Law 45 of 2021, Saudi Arabia's PDPL): contact people only about a relevant role and don't build lists you can't justify.
Why does Google show fewer people than LinkedIn search?
Google only shows public profiles it has indexed, and members can hide their profile from search engines. An X-ray search is a sample, not the whole of LinkedIn. That's why it works best alongside LinkedIn's own search: X-ray to find people outside your network, LinkedIn search for your 2nd-degree connections.
Should I use ae.linkedin.com or sa.linkedin.com instead of linkedin.com/in?
Country addresses (ae., sa., qa., kw., bh., om.) narrow results to profiles Google has indexed under that country, which can cut out people abroad. But Google doesn't index every profile under a country address, so you'll miss some. Start with linkedin.com/in plus city names, and switch to the country address when results are too broad.
My X-ray search returns nothing. What should I change?
Remove must-have skills first — every extra required word shrinks the results. Add title synonyms (the tool suggests them), add more cities, and check that every multi-word phrase is in quotes. Also keep the string under Google's 32-word limit; Google ignores the words after that, which can drop your location or exclusions.
How do I write the first message once I find someone?
Keep it short and specific: one line on why their profile stood out, the role, the city and the salary range, and a simple question such as 'open to a 15-minute call?'. Use the LinkedIn InMail generator or the candidate outreach email tool for a ready draft in English or Arabic.
Can I search for Arabic profiles?
Yes. Tick 'Include Arabic titles' to add the Arabic job titles (for example محاسب for accountant) to the OR group. Google matches Arabic words on profiles written in Arabic. Keep an eye on the word count — Arabic titles add words quickly.
