How long is my maternity leave and how much is paid?
Try both your basic and your full salary if you're not sure which your employer uses.
How maternity leave dates and pay are calculated
Each GCC labour law sets a number of maternity leave days and how they are paid, sometimes in tiers (the UAE pays 45 days in full, then 15 days at half pay). The calculator counts that many calendar days from your first day of leave to find your last day and return date, then pays each tier at a daily wage of your monthly wage ÷ 30.
- Full pay
- Your normal daily wage for each day of leave.
- Half pay
- 50% of your daily wage. The UAE pays the last 15 of its 60 days this way.
- Unpaid days
- Extra leave you can take without pay. Bahrain allows up to 15 on top of 60 paid days.
- Daily wage
- Monthly wage ÷ 30, the standard used to price each leave day.
- Return date
- The day after your last day of leave.

Frequently asked questions
Is maternity leave counted in calendar days or working days?
Calendar days. The leave runs continuously from your first day off, so weekends and public holidays that fall inside it count towards it and don't extend it. Pay is worked out on a daily wage of your monthly wage ÷ 30. For example, 60 days of UAE leave starting on 1 October ends on 29 November, and you're back at work on 30 November.
How much maternity leave do you get in the UAE?
60 days: the first 45 days on full pay and the next 15 days on half pay. The other parent is entitled to 5 working days of paid parental leave.
How long is maternity leave in Saudi Arabia after the 2025 amendments?
12 weeks (84 days) on full pay under the 2025 amendments to the Saudi Labour Law.
What is maternity leave in Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman?
Qatar gives 50 days on full pay and Kuwait 70 days on full pay. Bahrain gives 60 days paid plus up to 15 days unpaid. Oman gives 98 days; the calculator shows it at full wage, but check how the Social Protection Fund pays your benefit.
Is maternity pay based on basic salary or full salary?
The calculator uses whatever monthly figure you enter. Which parts of your package count can depend on your contract and employer policy, so try your basic salary and your full salary to see the range, then confirm with HR.
Which GCC country has the longest maternity leave?
Oman, at 98 days, followed by Saudi Arabia at 84 days (12 weeks). Bahrain allows 75 days in total including 15 unpaid, Kuwait 70, the UAE 60 and Qatar 50.
