How to Use This Teacher Job Description Template

A teacher job description in the UAE has two jobs: it must attract qualified, curriculum-fit educators from a global pool, and it must filter on the requirements that are genuinely non-negotiable here - an attested degree, a teaching qualification, and increasingly a UAE teaching licence. The UAE international-school sector is one of the largest and fastest-growing in the world, recruiting heavily from the UK, India, the Philippines, North America, Ireland, South Africa and beyond, with schools ramping up hiring for the 2026-27 academic year, especially in STEM, AI and Early Years. The single biggest mistake employers make is posting a generic "Teacher wanted" advert that omits the curriculum, the salary band, the licensing/attestation expectation and the work-authorisation status. Vague posts pull volume and a lot of unsuitable applications. The template below fixes that. Copy it, replace the bracketed fields, delete the lines that don't apply, and you have a job description ready to post on MenaJobs and other regional boards.

This is the rare role where licensing genuinely belongs in the must-have list. UAE private schools are regulated by the local authorities - the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai and the Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) in Abu Dhabi - both of which require teachers to hold a relevant degree and a teaching qualification, with the degree authenticated and attested through the multi-step chain (home-country authentication, then the UAE embassy, then the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs). On top of that, the Ministry of Education's Teacher Licensing System (TLS) - a national professional-licensure scheme requiring a credential review plus pedagogy/subject exams, issuing a digital licence valid for three years and renewable on continuing professional development - is being phased in across subjects and cycles. Build these into the JD honestly: state what is required now and what the candidate must obtain, rather than overstating or omitting.

Requirements (must-have)

  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. B.Ed, PGCE, QTS, or a state teaching credential) - required by KHDA and ADEK for private-school appointment.

Salary band and benefits

Salary: AED [X]-[Y] per month, tax-free, commensurate with qualifications and experience. As a guide, international-school teacher salaries in Dubai and Abu Dhabi commonly run around AED 12,000-22,000/month, with the wider sector often quoted around AED 11,500-15,000+/month plus benefits, and STEM/AI subject shortages reportedly carrying a 15-20% premium; leadership and highly experienced specialists sit above this. Stating the band is the single most effective filter you can add. Benefits in education typically bundle school-provided or subsidised accommodation (or a housing allowance), annual home-country flights, mandatory health insurance, tuition discounts for the teacher's own children at many schools, employer-sponsored residence visa, and end-of-service gratuity in line with UAE Labour Law. Most contracts follow the academic year.

Work authorisation and visa wording

This role is based in [emirate]. We sponsor a [mainland MOHRE] residence visa and work permit; under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 the employer pays all visa and permit costs and may not deduct them from salary. Candidates with a transferable UAE residence visa can usually start sooner. Note that degree attestation and (where applicable) the teaching licence must be in order for KHDA/ADEK approval, so candidates should factor the attestation timeline (typically a few weeks once documents are ready) into their availability. The standard post-probation notice period is 30-90 days, and teaching contracts typically align to the academic calendar.

Emiratisation note (use where relevant)

Education is one of the designated sectors under MOHRE/Nafis Emiratisation - 50+ employee institutions meet the general phased targets (2% annual growth in Emirati skilled roles toward 10% by end-2026), and from 1 January 2026 the minimum monthly wage for Emiratis in the private sector is AED 6,000. Emirati participation in teaching and education leadership is growing. You can still recruit expatriate teachers, and the sector relies heavily on them, but where you intend to fill a role with a UAE national to support your quota, say so - and keep it truthful, because MOHRE's Tasdeeq system penalises fictitious Emiratisation heavily.

Tips for Writing a Teacher JD That Converts

1. Lead with the four filters. Curriculum, salary band, the attestation/licensing expectation and the visa status belong near the top. For teaching, the curriculum and licensing pair is just as load-bearing as salary.

2. State the curriculum and phase precisely. A British-curriculum KS3 science teacher, an IB MYP teacher and a CBSE primary teacher are different hires. Naming the curriculum, phase, subject and exam boards filters hard for genuine fit.

3. Be explicit about attestation and the licence. Don't hide these or overstate them. Say plainly that the degree must be attested for KHDA/ADEK approval, that a teaching qualification is required, and whether the candidate must already hold the TLS licence or obtain it with the school's support. Honesty here prevents offers collapsing at the approval stage.

4. Don't invent a credential. The real requirements are an attested degree, a teaching qualification and the MOE TLS licence (phased by subject/cycle) plus KHDA/ADEK approval. Verify these against the issuing bodies - don't ask for a non-existent 'UAE teaching certificate' that isn't part of the actual framework.

5. Make the package real. Education packages are about more than salary - accommodation/allowance, flights, medical, and tuition discounts for the teacher's own children materially change the offer's value. Spell them out; they are often the deciding factor for relocating teachers.

6. Flag shortage subjects. If you're hiring STEM, AI/computing or Early Years, say so and reflect the premium - these candidates have options and move fast.

7. Lead on safeguarding. UAE schools take child safeguarding seriously and so should your JD. Stating it sets the tone and screens out the wrong applicants.

8. Align to the academic calendar. Teaching contracts and start dates follow the school year. State the intended start (e.g. August 2026) so candidates can plan attestation, visa and notice around it.
