How to Use This Physiotherapist Job Description Template

A physiotherapist is a licensed clinical role, and that fact should anchor your entire job description. In the UAE you cannot legally employ a physiotherapist to treat patients until they hold an active health-authority licence for the emirate your clinic or hospital operates in. A job description that omits this requirement, or buries it, attracts applicants who are months away from being able to treat - or who can never be activated at your location. The template below puts licensing first, then layers on the clinical, specialty and commercial requirements. Copy it, replace the bracketed fields, delete the lines that don't apply, and you have a job description ready to post on MenaJobs and other regional boards.

The template is written for the UAE market specifically. Physiotherapy licensing runs through three regulators depending on emirate: the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) for Dubai, the Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DOH, formerly HAAD) for Abu Dhabi, and the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) for Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. All three share the same backbone: an accredited physiotherapy degree, post-qualification experience, DataFlow Group primary source verification, and a pass in the relevant Prometric licensing exam (some senior or experienced candidates may be exempt depending on category). Build those expectations into the post and you screen out the unqualified at the first read.

Role purpose

We are a [clinic / hospital / rehabilitation centre / sports facility] based in [city / area], looking for a patient-focused Physiotherapist to assess, diagnose and deliver evidence-based rehabilitation, helping patients restore movement and function. Reporting to the [Clinical Lead / Rehab Manager], you will plan and deliver treatment to the standards set by [DHA / DOH / MOHAP] and our clinical-governance framework.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess and diagnose musculoskeletal, neurological, post-surgical and other conditions, and set measurable goals.
  • Design and deliver individualised treatment plans: manual therapy, exercise prescription, electrotherapy and patient education.
  • Deliver [your specialty mix, e.g. sports rehab, neuro rehab, paediatrics, post-operative orthopaedic rehab] in line with your scope of practice on the licence.
  • Track and document patient progress accurately in the practice-management system and adjust plans as needed.

Nice-to-have

  • Existing licence in the exact emirate (a DHA licence does not automatically cover Abu Dhabi or the Northern Emirates - each regulator is separate).
  • Sub-specialty skills you actually need: dry needling, sports rehabilitation, neuro/stroke rehab, paediatric or women's-health physiotherapy.
  • Arabic alongside English (valuable for patient communication and local clientele).

Salary: AED [X]-[Y] per month. As a guide, physiotherapists in the UAE typically earn around AED 10,000-25,000 per month depending on experience, specialisation and setting, with newly licensed therapists at the lower end and experienced specialists (sports, neuro) and senior/lead physiotherapists at the upper end; some private clinics use a base-plus-commission structure tied to caseload. Stating the band and structure is the single most effective filter you can add. Work authorisation and visa wording

Nationalisation note (use where relevant)

UAE physiotherapy is largely expatriate-staffed and there is no physiotherapist-specific Emiratisation quota, though general Emiratisation obligations may apply at the organisation level for larger employers (50+ staff). Where you intend to fill this role with a UAE national, say so truthfully, because MOHRE actively penalises fictitious Emiratisation.

Tips for Writing a Physiotherapist JD That Converts

1. Lead with licence status. The first filter for any UAE physiotherapist hire is the health-authority licence. State clearly whether you require an already-active [DHA / DOH / MOHAP] licence for your emirate, or whether you'll consider eligibility-in-progress candidates (DataFlow done, Prometric passed or booked). This one line removes the largest source of wasted screening.

2. Name the regulator and the emirate together. A physiotherapist licensed in Dubai (DHA) is not automatically licensed for Abu Dhabi (DOH) or Sharjah (MOHAP). "DHA-licensed, Dubai" tells candidates exactly what they need and prevents late-stage drop-off when the mismatch surfaces.

3. Be specific about specialty. "Physiotherapist" is broad. A sports physiotherapist, a neuro-rehab specialist and a general musculoskeletal therapist are different hires. Spell out the caseload and specialty you actually need so candidates self-select - and so the licence scope matches the work.

A physiotherapist in a busy private outpatient sports clinic, a hospital inpatient rehabilitation ward, a neuro-rehab centre and a home-visit service are four different hires with different temperaments, caseloads and earning models - and writing one generic post that blends them is the fastest route to a mis-hire and early churn. An outpatient musculoskeletal/sports physiotherapist sees high patient volume, short sessions and a strong retention component, often on a base-plus-commission model tied to caseload; the screen weights hands-on technique, rapport and throughput. A neuro or post-operative rehab physiotherapist works longer, goal-driven episodes within a multidisciplinary team, where evidence-based progression and outcome measurement matter more than session count.
