A good DevOps engineer job description does two jobs at once: it sells the role to engineers who can actually run production infrastructure, and it filters out the large volume of part-qualified applications that GCC cloud postings attract. Cloud and platform skills are among the UAE's most under-supplied, so a vague "DevOps Engineer wanted" advert pulls a flood of CVs that mix sysadmins, release managers and junior scripters under one title. The single biggest mistake employers make is omitting the salary band, the must-have toolchain and the work-authorisation expectation. The template below fixes that. Be clear from the outset: a DevOps engineer in the UAE needs no state occupational licence and no professional-body registration. There is no Society of Engineers card (that applies to civil/mechanical/electrical engineers, not software/platform roles), no health-authority exam, no "UAE DevOps licence." Your screen therefore rests on demonstrable hands-on experience, a portfolio of real infrastructure work, and vendor certifications. Role purpose
We are a [industry] company based in [city / free zone / mainland], looking for a hands-on DevOps Engineer to own our build, deploy and run pipeline and keep our systems reliable, secure and cost-efficient. Reporting to the [Engineering Lead / Head of Platform / CTO], you will automate everything that can be automated and be on the hook for uptime.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins) so teams ship safely and often.
- Provision and manage cloud infrastructure as code using Terraform (or CloudFormation/Pulumi) on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
- Containerise and orchestrate workloads with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Build observability: metrics, logging and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog or similar), and define SLOs.
- Own incident response and on-call rotation; run blameless post-mortems and drive reliability improvements.
- Harden infrastructure security: secrets management, IAM least-privilege, patching and compliance with UAE data-residency and regulatory requirements where relevant.
- Optimise cloud cost and performance, and right-size resources.
- Automate configuration management and toil (Ansible, scripting in Bash/Python).
- Partner with developers to improve deployment frequency, lead time and change-failure rate.
Requirements (must-have)
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- [3]+ years in a DevOps, SRE, platform or cloud-infrastructure role, ideally including UAE or wider GCC experience.
- Hands-on with at least one major cloud (AWS, Azure or GCP) in production.
- Strong with Docker and Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Solid Linux administration and scripting (Bash, Python or Go).
- Real experience with monitoring/observability and on-call incident response.
- A demonstrable track record: systems you have built or run, with metrics and outcomes you can discuss.
- Eligible to work in the UAE: holds a transferable residence visa or is a candidate we are prepared to sponsor.
Nice-to-have
- Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400) or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer.
- GitOps tooling (ArgoCD, Flux), service mesh, or serverless experience.
- Security/DevSecOps exposure (SAST/DAST, supply-chain security).

Salary band and benefits
Salary: AED [X]-[Y] per month, commensurate with experience. As an indicative guide for the UAE market, junior DevOps engineers typically earn around AED 15,000-22,000, mid-level (3-6 years) AED 22,000-38,000, and senior or lead DevOps/SRE AED 38,000-65,000+ per month, with banks, DIFC/ADGM fintechs, government and big-tech at the upper end and SMEs lower. Cloud and platform skills carry a documented shortage premium in the UAE. Work authorisation and visa wording
This role is based in [emirate]. We sponsor a [mainland MOHRE / free-zone] residence visa and work permit; under UAE law the employer pays 100% of visa and permit costs. Candidates with a transferable UAE residence visa can usually start sooner. Note the standard notice period in the UAE is 30-90 days after probation, so factor your availability into your application.
Emiratisation note (use where relevant)
If your company has 50 or more employees, a DevOps engineer is a skilled role (professional classification levels 1-5) that counts towards your MOHRE Emiratisation target - a 2% annual increase in the Emirati skilled-share toward 10% by end-2026. You can still hire an expatriate DevOps engineer, and most are, but where you intend to fill this position with a UAE national to support your Nafis quota, say so: e.g. "This role is open to UAE nationals as part of our Emiratisation commitment." Keep any such statement truthful - MOHRE's Tasdeeq system actively penalises fictitious Emiratisation, with penalties reaching AED 100,000 per worker.
Tips for Writing a DevOps JD That Converts
1. Lead with the three filters. Salary band, must-have toolchain (cloud + Kubernetes + IaC + CI/CD) and visa expectation belong near the top. This trio cuts unqualified applications dramatically and is the highest-leverage edit you can make.
2. Name your actual stack. "DevOps experience" is generic. "Runs EKS in production, manages infra with Terraform, ships via GitHub Actions" tells a real engineer exactly what they'll touch and screens out people who only have one piece of the picture. List your real cloud, orchestrator, IaC tool and pipeline.
3. Decide if you mean DevOps, SRE or Platform Engineer. These titles overlap but emphasise different things - SRE leans reliability and on-call, platform engineering leans internal-developer-platform building, DevOps leans CI/CD and automation. Pick the emphasis you actually need so candidates self-select correctly.
4. Ask for evidence, not just tools. Because there's no licence to verify, ask candidates to describe a system they built or an incident they resolved, with metrics. "What's your deployment frequency and how did you improve it?" surfaces real operators.
5. Treat certs as signals, not gatekeepers. CKA, AWS DevOps Pro and AZ-400 are useful salary signals and ATS keywords, but a strong track record outweighs a cert. Don't make a cert a hard requirement unless a client or compliance regime demands it.
6. Keep claims honest and verifiable. There is no "UAE DevOps licence" and no SOE registration for software/platform roles - don't ask for one. Verify skill through a practical exercise or systems-design discussion, not a non-existent regulator.
7. Scale the responsibilities to seniority. A junior DevOps engineer supports pipelines and automation under guidance. A mid-level engineer owns infrastructure and on-call with limited oversight. A senior/lead/SRE sets reliability standards, designs the platform and mentors. Listing senior reliability ownership under a junior band repels strong candidates or attracts people who churn quickly. Decide which profile you're hiring, then prune the list to match it rather than describing three jobs at once.
8. Make location, on-call and structure explicit. State mainland vs free zone, emirate, in-office/hybrid/remote, and crucially whether there's an on-call rotation. On-call materially affects who applies and what they expect to be paid - hiding it causes late-stage drop-off. A line such as "Dubai mainland, hybrid, on-call 1-in-4" removes ambiguity.
