How to Use This Hotel Manager Job Description Template

A hotel manager job description has to attract a true operations leader - someone who can run rooms, F&B, guest experience, people and the P&L - while filtering out the many department-head and assistant-manager applications that senior hospitality posts attract. The UAE is one of the most buoyant hospitality markets in the world: Dubai alone has thousands of new hotel rooms slated through 2027, and the sector is almost entirely expatriate-staffed at every level. That depth of supply cuts both ways - you get a strong field, but also a lot of CVs that overstate scope. The single biggest mistake employers make is posting a generic "Hotel Manager wanted" advert that omits the salary band, the property type and scale (luxury resort vs. mid-scale city hotel vs. apartments), the brand-standard expectation and the work-authorisation status. Vague posts pull volume and almost no signal. The template below fixes that. Copy it, replace the bracketed fields, delete the lines that don't apply, and you have a job description ready to post on MenaJobs and other regional boards.

Every section is written for the UAE market specifically. Unlike clinical or engineering roles, there is no state professional licence to be a hotel manager - the screen is hospitality experience, brand-standard track record and P&L ownership, not a regulator's stamp. What the property itself must hold are the operating approvals from the emirate tourism authority (Dubai's DET/DTCM, Abu Dhabi's DCT) plus the standard licences (trade, alcohol where applicable, food-safety for kitchens), and your hotel manager is expected to keep the property compliant with those classification and licensing standards.

Job title

Hotel Manager (variations: General Manager, Hotel General Manager, Operations Manager - Hotel, Resident Manager, Cluster Hotel Manager). Add the location and property, e.g. Hotel Manager - [Brand], Dubai, and the property type/scale if relevant.

Role purpose

We are a [property type, e.g. 5-star city hotel / beach resort / hotel apartments] in [city], looking for an experienced Hotel Manager to own the day-to-day operation and commercial performance of the property - rooms, F&B, guest experience, people and P&L. Reporting to the [General Manager / Owner / Cluster GM], you will deliver brand standards, drive guest-satisfaction and revenue metrics, lead the heads of department, and keep the property compliant with [DET/DTCM / DCT Abu Dhabi] classification and licensing requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Own daily operations across rooms division, F&B, housekeeping, front office and engineering, to brand standard.
  • Drive commercial performance: occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, F&B revenue and overall P&L against budget.
  • Lead, develop and hold accountable the heads of department; build a strong service culture in a multinational team.
  • Own guest experience and reputation: guest-satisfaction scores, online reviews and service-recovery.
  • Ensure brand-standard and quality-audit compliance (where part of a chain) and operational SOPs.
  • Manage cost lines, labour productivity, procurement and capex within budget.
  • Keep the property compliant with UAE/emirate tourism, licensing, fire-and-safety and food-safety regulations.
  • Work with sales, revenue management and marketing to optimise distribution, rate and mix.
  • Handle escalations, VIP and crisis situations with composure.
  • Report performance to ownership / corporate and execute the property's strategic plan.

Requirements (must-have)

  • Degree or diploma in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management or a related field (strong operational track record can substitute).
  • [8]+ years' progressive hotel experience with [3]+ years in a senior operations / department-head or above role, ideally in the UAE or wider GCC.
  • Proven ownership of hotel operations and the P&L for a comparable property type and scale.
  • Strong command of rooms and F&B operations and brand-standard delivery.
  • Demonstrable record on guest-satisfaction and commercial KPIs (occupancy, ADR, RevPAR).
  • Proficiency in [PMS you run, e.g. Opera / Oracle OPERA Cloud] and revenue/reporting systems.
  • Strong leadership of a large, multinational team and excellent English (additional languages a plus).
  • Eligible to work in the UAE: holds a transferable residence visa or is a candidate we are prepared to sponsor.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with [your brand / a comparable international brand] and pre-opening or repositioning experience.
  • Arabic or another guest-relevant language (Russian, Mandarin, Hindi, French) for your guest mix.
  • Revenue-management or commercial certification; GCC market and government-/leisure-segment experience.
  • Familiarity with DET/DTCM (Dubai) or DCT Abu Dhabi classification and licensing.

Salary band and benefits

Salary: AED [X]-[Y] per month, commensurate with property scale and experience. As a guide, aggregator averages (often around AED 7,000-16,000/month) badly understate true senior pay because they blend in department-head and entry roles; a realistic band for a hotel manager / GM is roughly AED 25,000-45,000/month at mid-to-upscale properties and AED 35,000-60,000+ for general managers of top luxury hotels and resorts (top international chains can run higher still). Stating the band is the single most effective filter you can add. Benefits in hospitality typically bundle accommodation (or a housing allowance), meals on duty and transport, so the effective package exceeds basic pay; plus mandatory health insurance, annual or biennial home-country air ticket, employer-sponsored residence visa, and end-of-service gratuity in line with UAE Labour Law.

Work authorisation and visa wording

This role is based in [emirate]. We sponsor a [mainland MOHRE] residence visa and work permit; under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 the employer pays all visa and permit costs and may not deduct them from salary. Candidates with a transferable UAE residence visa can usually start sooner. The standard post-probation notice period is 30-90 days; senior hospitality roles often sit at the upper end, so factor availability into your planning.

Emiratisation note (use where relevant)

Hospitality falls under the general private-sector Emiratisation mandate - 50+ employee firms must lift Emiratis in skilled roles by 2% per year toward 10% by end-2026, with at least one Emirati required for 20-49-employee firms in designated activities - though there is no published hospitality-specific quota and the sector remains expat-dominated in practice. A hotel manager is a skilled role that counts toward your MOHRE/Nafis obligations. You can still hire an expatriate, and most properties do, but where you intend to fill a position with a UAE national to support your quota, say so - and keep it truthful, because MOHRE's Tasdeeq system penalises fictitious Emiratisation heavily.

Tips for Writing a Hotel Manager JD That Converts

1. Lead with the three filters. Salary band, property type/scale and visa expectation belong near the top. This trio cuts mismatched applications sharply.

2. Define the property precisely. A 5-star beach resort, a mid-scale city hotel and serviced apartments are very different operations. State the room count, star rating, F&B outlets and whether branded or independent so candidates can self-assess scope.

3. Distinguish Hotel Manager from General Manager. In many properties a Hotel Manager runs operations under a GM, while in others the title is the top job. Be explicit about the reporting line and whether full P&L ownership sits with this role - it changes the seniority and the band entirely.

4. Make brand standards and KPIs concrete. "Hospitality experience" is generic. "Delivers [brand] standards and owns occupancy, ADR, RevPAR and guest-satisfaction targets" tells a real operator exactly what success looks like.

5. Name your PMS and systems. Opera/OPERA Cloud proficiency, revenue-management tools and reputation platforms signal you know your stack and filter for fit.

6. Be honest about the team and the market. Leading a large, multinational hospitality team in one of the world's most competitive markets is the core challenge. Say so, and screen for people-leadership and commercial nous together, not just service polish.

7. Keep claims honest. There is no "UAE hotel-manager licence" to ask for. Screen on hospitality track record, brand-standard delivery and P&L results, and verify references and tenure - the property's tourism-authority classification and trade/food-safety licences are the licences, not the individual's.

8. Match seniority and band. A resident/operations manager under a GM is a different hire from a standalone GM owning the full P&L. Listing GM-level accountability under a mid-level band repels strong candidates and attracts churn - decide which job this is and prune accordingly.

Once your JD is live, pair it with a structured interview. See our employer interview-questions guide for hotel managers to build a consistent, scenario-based screen, and our broader hiring guide for realistic time-to-hire planning in the GCC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should a Hotel Manager job description include in the UAE?
State the salary band, the property type and scale, and the visa expectation near the top. Then describe the work concretely - ownership of rooms and F&B operations, brand-standard delivery, guest experience and the P&L, with named KPIs (occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, guest-satisfaction) - and clarify whether this Hotel Manager role runs operations under a GM or is the top job with full P&L ownership. Name your PMS (Opera/OPERA Cloud) and note compliance with the emirate tourism authority's classification and licensing. Those specifics filter the many department-head applications senior hospitality posts attract.
Does a hotel manager need a licence to work in the UAE?
No. Unlike clinical or engineering roles, there is no state professional licence to be a hotel manager - the screen is hospitality experience, brand-standard track record and P&L ownership, not a regulator's stamp. What must be licensed is the property itself: operating approval and classification from the emirate tourism authority (Dubai's DET/DTCM, Abu Dhabi's DCT) plus trade, alcohol (where applicable) and food-safety licences. Your hotel manager is expected to keep the property compliant with those standards, so screen for that awareness rather than a personal licence.
What is a realistic salary for a hotel manager in Dubai in 2026?
Aggregator averages (often around AED 7,000-16,000/month) badly understate true senior pay because they blend in department-head and entry roles. A realistic band for a hotel manager or GM is roughly AED 25,000-45,000/month at mid-to-upscale properties and AED 35,000-60,000+ for general managers of top luxury hotels and resorts, with top international chains higher still. Hospitality packages also typically bundle accommodation (or a housing allowance), meals on duty and transport, so the effective value exceeds the headline basic pay.
What's the difference between a Hotel Manager and a General Manager in a UAE JD?
It varies by property, which is exactly why you must be explicit. In many hotels a Hotel Manager runs day-to-day operations and reports to a General Manager who owns the full P&L and ownership relationship; in others, especially smaller or independent properties, 'Hotel Manager' is the top job. State the reporting line and whether full P&L ownership sits with this role - it changes the seniority, the responsibilities and the salary band entirely, and getting it wrong attracts the wrong shortlist.
Can I write one hotel manager JD for the whole GCC?
Use one template as a base, but localise the licensing and nationalisation lines. The UAE uses emirate tourism authorities (DET/DTCM, DCT Abu Dhabi) for classification and runs MOHRE/Nafis Emiratisation; Saudi Arabia runs Nitaqat (Saudisation) and its own tourism licensing under the Ministry of Tourism, Qatar runs Qatarisation, Oman runs Omanisation quotas. Alcohol rules, classification standards and salary norms also differ. Keep the operational responsibilities portable, but adapt the licensing, nationalisation and visa wording per country before posting.
