How to Use This Data Scientist Job Description Template
A good data scientist job description does two jobs at once: it sells the role to genuinely skilled practitioners, and it filters out the very large volume of applications that GCC tech postings attract. Data science is one of the UAE's hottest hiring areas - AI and data-science job postings reportedly roughly doubled between 2021 and 2024 and are growing two-to-three times faster than the general market - so a vague, copy-paste "Data Scientist wanted" advert pulls hundreds of CVs and almost no signal. The single biggest mistake employers make is omitting the salary band, the must-have technical stack and the work-authorisation expectation. The template below is structured to fix that. Copy it, replace the bracketed fields with your own details, delete the lines that don't apply, and you have a job description that is ready to post on MenaJobs and other regional boards.
One thing to be clear about from the outset: unlike doctors, nurses or civil engineers, a data scientist in the UAE needs no state occupational licence and no professional-body registration. There is no Society of Engineers card, no health-authority exam, no "UAE data-science licence" to ask for. That means your screen rests entirely on demonstrable skills, a portfolio of real projects, and vendor certifications. The template builds those expectations in so you attract people who can actually ship models, not just list buzzwords.

Data Scientist (variations: Machine Learning Engineer, Senior Data Scientist, Applied Scientist, AI/ML Data Scientist). Add the location, e.g. Data Scientist - Dubai, UAE, and whether the role is mainland or free zone if relevant.
Role purpose
We are a [industry] company based in [city / free zone / mainland], looking for a rigorous Data Scientist to turn our data into models, forecasts and decisions. Reporting to the [Head of Data / Analytics Lead / CTO], you will frame business problems as data problems, build and validate models, and put them into production with our engineering team.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with business stakeholders to translate questions into well-defined data-science problems and success metrics.
- Explore, clean and engineer features from large, messy datasets using Python (pandas, scikit-learn) and SQL.
- Build, validate and tune predictive and statistical models (regression, classification, clustering, time-series, and where relevant NLP or recommendation systems).
- Run experiments and A/B tests, and quantify uncertainty honestly rather than over-claiming accuracy.
- Deploy models to production with the engineering/MLOps team and monitor them for drift and degradation.
- Communicate findings to non-technical leadership through clear visualisations and plain-language narratives.
- Maintain reproducible code, notebooks and documentation; follow data-governance and privacy rules (including UAE data-protection requirements).
- Mentor analysts and contribute to the team's modelling standards and code review.
Requirements (must-have)
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related quantitative field.
- [3]+ years building and deploying real models, ideally including UAE or wider GCC experience.
- Strong Python and SQL; hands-on with pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn and at least one deep-learning framework (PyTorch or TensorFlow) where the role needs it.
- Solid grounding in statistics, experimental design and the maths behind the models - not just library calls.
- A demonstrable portfolio: GitHub, published projects, Kaggle, or production models you can talk through in detail.
- Experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) for data and model workloads.
- Eligible to work in the UAE: holds a transferable residence visa or is a candidate we are prepared to sponsor.
Nice-to-have
- Cloud certifications such as AWS Certified Machine Learning, Azure Data Scientist Associate (DP-100) or Google Cloud Professional ML Engineer.
- MLOps tooling (Docker, MLflow, Airflow, Kubernetes) and CI/CD for models.

Salary band and benefits
Salary: AED [X]-[Y] per month, commensurate with experience. As an indicative guide for the UAE market, junior data scientists typically earn around AED 12,000-18,000, mid-level (3-6 years) AED 18,000-30,000, and senior or lead data scientists AED 30,000-55,000+ per month, with banking, consulting, government and big-tech employers at the upper end and SMEs lower. Hard-to-fill AI/ML specialists command a documented premium - reported AI pay premiums reached roughly 56% in 2025 - so calibrate to your sector. Benefits: housing and transport allowances (commonly 25-40% of base), mandatory health insurance, annual or biennial home-country air ticket, employer-sponsored residence visa, and end-of-service gratuity in line with UAE Labour Law.
Work authorisation and visa wording
This role is based in [emirate]. We sponsor a [mainland MOHRE / free-zone] residence visa and work permit; under UAE law the employer pays 100% of visa and permit costs. Candidates with a transferable UAE residence visa can usually start sooner. Note the standard notice period in the UAE is 30-90 days after probation, so factor your availability into your application.
Emiratisation note (use where relevant)
If your company has 50 or more employees, a data scientist is a skilled role (professional classification levels 1-5) that counts towards your MOHRE Emiratisation target - the requirement is a 2% annual increase in the Emirati skilled-share toward 10% by end-2026. You can still hire an expatriate data scientist, and most are, but where you intend to fill this position with a UAE national to support your Nafis quota, say so: e.g. "This role is open to UAE nationals as part of our Emiratisation commitment." Keep any such statement truthful - MOHRE's Tasdeeq system actively penalises fictitious Emiratisation, with penalties reaching AED 100,000 per worker.
Tips for Writing a Data Scientist JD That Converts
1. Lead with the three filters. Salary band, must-have stack (Python/SQL + cloud + the modelling type you need) and visa expectation belong near the top. This trio cuts unqualified applications dramatically and is the highest-leverage edit you can make.
2. Distinguish data scientist from data analyst and ML engineer. These three roles overlap and get conflated constantly. If you need dashboards and reporting, you want an analyst (and a lower band). If you need production model serving and pipelines, you want an ML/MLOps engineer. A data scientist sits between - modelling and experimentation. Name which one you actually need or you'll attract a mismatched shortlist.
3. Ask for a portfolio, not just a degree. Because there is no licence to verify, the portfolio is your evidence. "Share a GitHub repo or a project you can walk us through" tells real practitioners they'll be judged on work, and screens out keyword-stuffed CVs.
4. Name your actual stack and cloud. A scientist who lives in AWS SageMaker is different from one who only knows local notebooks. List your real cloud, frameworks and data tooling so candidates self-select for fit.
5. Treat certs as signals, not gatekeepers. AWS ML, Azure DP-100 and Google Cloud ML certs are useful salary signals and ATS keywords, but a strong portfolio outweighs a cert. Don't make a cert a hard requirement unless your clients or compliance demand it.
6. Keep claims honest and verifiable. There is no "UAE data-science licence," so don't ask for one. Verify degrees through attestation if needed, and verify skill through a short take-home or live exercise rather than a non-existent regulator.
7. Scale the responsibilities to seniority. A junior data scientist supports modelling under supervision and does heavy data prep. A mid-level scientist owns problems end-to-end with limited oversight. A senior/lead sets modelling standards, deploys to production and mentors. Listing lead-level duties under a junior band repels strong candidates and attracts people who will leave the moment a better-paid match appears. Decide which of the three profiles you are hiring, then prune the responsibilities and requirements list so it describes that single profile, not three jobs at once.
8. Make location and structure explicit. State whether the role is mainland or free zone, in-office, hybrid or remote, and which emirate. Free-zone sponsorship is cheaper but restricts where the employee can work. A line such as "Dubai mainland, hybrid, Sun-Thu" removes ambiguity and prevents late-stage drop-off.
