How to Use This Auditor Job Description Template

An auditor job description has to do two things at once: attract genuinely qualified assurance professionals, and screen out the large volume of general-accounting applicants who apply to anything with "audit" in the title. The most common mistake UAE employers make is failing to state, up front, three things: whether the role is external (statutory) audit or internal audit, the salary band, and the qualification expectation. Without those, a vague "Auditor wanted" post pulls hundreds of mismatched CVs. The template below is built to fix that. Copy it, replace the bracketed fields with your own details, delete the lines that don't apply, and you have a job description ready to post on MenaJobs and other regional boards.

The single most important distinction to get right in the UAE is external versus internal audit, because the licensing picture differs sharply. A firm that signs off statutory audit opinions on UAE-registered companies must employ auditors registered in the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism's Register of Practising Auditors, governed by the Federal Law on the Regulation of the Audit Profession. Individual registration there requires a recognised accounting qualification, professional experience (one year for a doctorate, two for a master's, three for a bachelor's in accounting), professional indemnity insurance through the firm, ongoing CPD of at least 30 training hours a year, and a registration fee in the region of AED 4,500 for a three-year licence. By contrast, an internal auditor employed inside a company needs no state licence at all - the differentiator there is the CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) credential and relevant experience, not a government register. Decide which role you are hiring before you write a single line.

Editable Auditor Job Description Template

Job title

Auditor (variations: External Auditor, Statutory Auditor, Internal Auditor, IT Auditor, Senior Auditor, Audit Manager). Add the location, e.g. Auditor - Dubai, UAE, and crucially state whether the role is external/statutory or internal.

Role purpose

We are a [audit firm / company internal-audit function] based in [city / free zone / mainland], looking for a detail-oriented [External / Internal] Auditor to plan and execute audit engagements, test controls, document findings and produce clear, defensible reports. Reporting to the [Audit Partner / Audit Manager / Head of Internal Audit], you will help our [clients / business] stay compliant, well-controlled and audit-ready under IFRS and the applicable UAE regulations.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and execute audit engagements end to end - scoping, risk assessment, fieldwork and reporting.
  • Perform substantive testing, controls testing, walkthroughs and analytical review.
  • Document working papers to standard (ISA for external audit; IIA standards for internal audit).
  • Verify balances through confirmations, reconciliations, vouching and recalculation.
  • Identify control weaknesses, quantify findings and recommend practical remediation.
  • Draft clear audit reports and management letters for partner / committee review.
  • For external/statutory roles: support issuance of the audit opinion in line with ISA and UAE statutory requirements; liaise with the client's finance team.
  • For internal roles: build and execute the risk-based annual audit plan; track remediation of prior findings; support the audit committee.
  • Assess compliance with UAE VAT, corporate tax and anti-money-laundering obligations where relevant.
  • Keep up to date with IFRS, ISA and UAE regulatory change.

Requirements (must-have)

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • Part- or fully-qualified ACCA, CA / ICAEW, CPA (external audit) or CIA (internal audit) - state your minimum clearly.
  • [3]+ years' audit experience, ideally including UAE or wider GCC exposure.
  • For external/statutory sign-off roles: eligibility for, or existing registration in, the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism Register of Practising Auditors (or the firm's plan to register you).
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS and ISA (external) or the IIA's IPPF standards (internal).
  • Solid grasp of UAE VAT and corporate-tax basics as they affect audited financials.
  • Proficiency in audit/working-paper software [e.g. CaseWare, MyWorkpapers] and advanced Excel.
  • Eligible to work in the UAE: holds a transferable residence visa or is a candidate we are prepared to sponsor.

Nice-to-have

  • Big 4 or recognised mid-tier audit-firm training.
  • CISA (for IT audit) or CFE (for forensic / fraud-focused roles).
  • Sector experience in [your sector, e.g. banking, real estate, trading, DMCC/free-zone entities].
  • Arabic language skills (useful for government and local-family-business clients).

Salary band and benefits

Salary: AED [X]-[Y] per month, commensurate with experience. As a guide, in Big 4 and mid-tier external audit, associates earn roughly AED 7,000-11,000, seniors/supervisors AED 10,000-15,000, assistant managers AED 14,000-19,000 and managers AED 18,000-24,000+ per month (all-in). Internal audit roles broadly span AED 8,000-30,000 per month depending on seniority and sector, with banking and large corporates at the top. Stating the band is the single most effective filter you can add. Benefits: housing and transport allowances (commonly 25-40% of base), mandatory health insurance, annual or biennial home-country air ticket, employer-sponsored residence visa, and end-of-service gratuity in line with UAE Labour Law.

Work authorisation and visa wording

This role is based in [emirate]. We sponsor a [mainland MOHRE / free-zone] residence visa and work permit; under UAE law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021) the employer pays all visa and permit costs. Candidates with a transferable UAE residence visa can usually start sooner. The standard notice period in the UAE is 30-90 days, so factor your availability into your application.

Emiratisation note (use where relevant)

If your firm or company has 50 or more employees, an auditor is a skilled role that counts towards your MOHRE Emiratisation obligations (a 2% annual increase in the Emirati skilled-workforce share toward the 10% target). Finance and banking is the UAE's most-nationalised sector, so where you intend to fill this position with a UAE national to support your Nafis quota, say so: e.g. "This role is open to UAE nationals as part of our Emiratisation commitment." Keep any such statement truthful - MOHRE actively penalises fictitious Emiratisation through the Tasdeeq system.

Tips for Writing an Auditor JD That Converts

1. State external vs internal in the title and the first line. These are different jobs with different qualifications (ACCA/CA/CPA vs CIA), different standards (ISA vs IIA), and a completely different licensing picture. Mixing them is the fastest way to attract the wrong shortlist.

2. Be precise about the registration requirement. If the role involves signing or supporting statutory audit opinions on UAE entities, the auditor must be registered in the Ministry of Economy & Tourism's Register of Practising Auditors - so say whether you require existing registration or will sponsor it. If it's an internal-audit role, make clear that no state licence applies and you screen on CIA and experience instead. Don't ask internal-audit candidates for a non-existent "UAE internal-audit licence."

3. Lead with the three filters. Salary band, must-have qualification (and level), and visa expectation belong near the top. This trio cuts unqualified applications dramatically.

4. Name the standards and the software. "Audit experience" is generic. "Executes ISA-compliant engagements and documents working papers in CaseWare" tells a real auditor exactly what the job involves and screens for genuine assurance experience versus general accounting.

5. Match seniority to duties. An audit associate executes fieldwork under review; a senior runs sections of an engagement and reviews juniors; a manager owns the engagement, the client relationship and the report. Listing manager-level duties under an associate band repels good candidates and attracts mismatches.

6. Keep claims honest and verifiable. Verify professional qualifications (ACCA, CA, CPA, CIA) against the issuing body, and verify Register of Practising Auditors status against the Ministry of Economy & Tourism public register. Don't invent credentials that don't exist.

7. Make location and structure explicit. State the emirate, whether mainland or free zone, and whether the role is in-office, hybrid or remote. External auditors travel to client sites, so set that expectation clearly to avoid late-stage drop-off.

Once your JD is live, pair it with a structured interview. See our employer interview-questions guide for auditors to build a consistent, scenario-based screen, and our broader hiring guide for realistic time-to-hire planning in the GCC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should an Auditor job description include in the UAE?
State first whether the role is external/statutory or internal audit - they need different qualifications and have different licensing rules. Then put the salary band, the must-have qualification (ACCA, CA or CPA for external; CIA for internal, and whether part- or fully-qualified) and the visa expectation near the top. List concrete duties - engagement planning, substantive and controls testing, working-paper documentation to ISA or IIA standards, and reporting - plus the actual audit software you use. For statutory sign-off roles, state whether registration in the Ministry of Economy & Tourism Register of Practising Auditors is required or will be sponsored.
Does a UAE auditor need a government licence?
It depends on the role. An auditor who signs or supports statutory audit opinions on UAE-registered companies must be registered in the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism's Register of Practising Auditors, under the Federal Law on the Regulation of the Audit Profession. That registration requires a recognised accounting qualification, qualifying experience, professional indemnity insurance via the firm, at least 30 CPD hours a year and a fee of around AED 4,500 for a three-year licence. An internal auditor employed inside a company needs no state licence - there you screen on the CIA credential and experience instead.
Should I require ACCA, CA, CPA or CIA for an auditor role?
Match the credential to the role. For external/statutory audit, ACCA, CA/ICAEW or CPA (part- or fully-qualified) is standard, and full qualification plus Register of Practising Auditors eligibility is expected for sign-off roles. For internal audit, the CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) is the recognised credential, with CISA for IT audit and CFE for forensic work. State your minimum acceptable level explicitly and verify the credential against the issuing body.
How much do auditors earn in the UAE in 2026?
In Big 4 and mid-tier external audit, indicative all-in monthly pay runs roughly AED 7,000-11,000 for associates, AED 10,000-15,000 for seniors/supervisors, AED 14,000-19,000 for assistant managers and AED 18,000-24,000+ for managers. Internal audit roles broadly span AED 8,000-30,000 per month depending on seniority and sector, with banking and large corporates at the top. State a range in the JD rather than a single figure - a visible band is the single most effective filter you can add.
Can I write one auditor JD for the whole GCC?
Use one template as a base, but localise the licensing and registration lines. The UAE requires statutory auditors to be registered in the Ministry of Economy & Tourism Register of Practising Auditors; Saudi Arabia requires SOCPA registration for practising accountants and auditors, with no UAE equivalent. VAT, corporate-tax and nationalisation rules also differ by country (Emiratisation vs Saudisation vs Qatarisation). Keep the role purpose and responsibilities portable, but adapt the qualification, registration, tax and visa wording per country before posting.
