What the English check covers
There are four short sections. Grammar checks the tenses and structures that appear in everyday work messages. Vocabulary checks common workplace words. Reading asks four questions about one realistic facilities email. Workplace writing checks tone, subject lines and polite requests. Each correct answer scores one point; the result shows the total, a plain-language band and the score per section, and every answer comes with a short explanation.
- Indicative
- A rough guide for screening, not a measured or certified level.
- Section score
- Shows where a candidate is strong or weak (e.g. reading vs writing tone).
- Band
- Basic, Developing, Good working English or Strong — descriptive labels only.
Limits of a 20-question quiz
- It doesn't test speaking or listening — check those in the interview.
- Only test English when the job genuinely uses it.
- Results from an unsupervised test can't be verified.
- Don't use the band as a pass mark on its own; combine it with the interview.
Other quick checks
For admin and data-entry roles, add the typing speed test (English or Arabic). See which assessment suits each role in the skills assessment picker.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a certified English test?
No. It's a short, original quiz for a quick first check of workplace English — grammar, vocabulary, reading a work email and writing polite, clear messages. It isn't standardised, doesn't give a CEFR or exam level, and shouldn't be the only basis for a hiring decision. For roles where English is critical, use a recognised test or a structured speaking and writing task.
How long does it take?
About ten minutes for 20 questions. There's no time limit, so candidates aren't penalised for reading carefully.
How should I use it in hiring?
Send the link only for roles where English is used in the job, give every candidate the same test, and ask them to send a screenshot of the result. Then check speaking and writing in the interview — a multiple-choice quiz can't test those.
Can candidates cheat?
Yes, an unsupervised online quiz can be looked up or done by someone else. That's why the result is indicative. If English matters, run it during a video call or follow up with a short writing task under supervision.
Is my data stored?
No. Answers are scored in your browser and nothing is sent to our server unless you choose to email yourself the result.
