Heavy Driver (HIAB Operator)

The Heavy Driver (HIAB Operator) is responsible for the safe operation of heavy vehicles equipped with a HIAB (truck-mounted hydraulic crane) to transport, load, unload, and position materials, equipment, and machinery. The role ensures compliance with road traffic regulations, lifting safety requirements, and company HSE standards while maintaining assigned vehicles and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy vehicles and HIAB cranes safely and efficiently.
• Transport materials, equipment, and machinery to designated locations.
• Perform loading, unloading, and lifting operations in accordance with approved safety procedures.
• Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and daily inspections of vehicles, cranes, and lifting accessories.
• Ensure loads are secured properly before transportation.
• Follow traffic laws, company policies, and HSE requirements at all times.
• Inspect lifting gear and report any defects or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Maintain accurate records of trips, fuel usage, inspections, and deliveries.
• Coordinate with supervisors, riggers, and site personnel during lifting operations.
• Report accidents, incidents, breakdowns, and maintenance requirements promptly.
• Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping of assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Support emergency transportation and lifting requirements as directed.

• Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
• Valid Heavy Vehicle Driving License.
• Valid HIAB/Truck-Mounted Crane Operator Certificate.
• Defensive Driving Certificate preferred.
• Basic Lifting and Rigging certification is an advantage.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Heavy Driver.
• Minimum 2 years of experience operating HIAB or truck-mounted cranes.
• Experience in construction, utilities, logistics, industrial, or maintenance operations preferred.
• Knowledge of heavy vehicle operation and road safety regulations.
• Proficiency in HIAB crane operation and safe lifting practices.
• Ability to inspect vehicles, cranes, and lifting accessories.
• Basic mechanical knowledge of vehicles and hydraulic systems.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality standards.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet operational deadlines.
