We are looking for an experienced Cost Control Engineer to join our construction team in Dubai. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in construction project cost control, with hands-on responsibility for monitoring project budgets, expenditures, commitments, variations, forecasting, and overall cost performance.
Construction company experience is mandatory. Candidates whose experience is limited to general accounting, finance, or non-construction cost control will not be considered.
Hence, The ideal candidate will be someone who has worked directly within a construction project environment and understands how engineering, procurement, subcontracting, site progress, variations, and project expenditure affect overall project costs.
Candidates with purely accounting or finance backgrounds without hands-on construction cost-control experience will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control project costs from project commencement through completion.
- Prepare and maintain project budgets, cost plans, forecasts, and cost reports.
- Track actual project expenditure against approved budgets and identify variances.
- Monitor commitments, purchase orders, subcontractor costs, material costs, and site expenditures.
- Maintain project cost codes and ensure accurate allocation of project costs.
- Prepare monthly cost-control reports and provide analysis to project management.
- Monitor project progress against budget and forecast the expected final cost.
- Prepare and maintain Estimate at Completion (EAC) and cost-to-complete forecasts.
- Identify potential cost overruns and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Monitor and assess the financial impact of project variations, claims, and change orders.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, Finance, and Site Engineers regarding project costs.
- Review subcontractor and supplier commitments and ensure they are accurately reflected in project cost reports.
- Monitor accruals, invoices, commitments, and actual costs.
- Assist in project cash-flow forecasting and expenditure planning.
- Analyze cost trends and provide management with accurate financial information for decision-making.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of project costs in accordance with company procedures.
- Support project teams in maintaining cost efficiency and minimizing unnecessary expenditure.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related engineering/construction discipline.
- Proven experience as a Cost Control Engineer / Project Cost Control Engineer within the construction industry.
- Mandatory: Previous experience working directly for a construction company.
- Strong understanding of construction project cost control and project financial management.
- Hands-on experience with project budgets, cost forecasting, commitments, variations, and cost reporting.
- Experience with EAC, ETC, actual vs. budget analysis, accruals, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
- Strong knowledge of construction project expenditures, subcontractor costs, procurement, and material costs.
- Ability to analyze cost variances and identify potential project cost overruns.
- Strong MS Excel skills and experience with relevant ERP/project management/cost-control software.
- Good understanding of construction contracts, BOQs, variations, subcontractor agreements, and project documentation.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and reporting skills.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills.
- Ability to work closely with project and site teams.
- Must be willing to work on-site in Dubai.
- UAE construction experience is highly preferred.
