Job Purpose:

The Heavy Equipment & Generator Electrical Specialist is responsible for the advanced diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, and configuration of industrial diesel generators and complex electrical/electronic systems on heavy construction machinery. This dual-focused role ensures optimal power delivery, network communication, and minimal downtime across field operations. While working across various equipment lines, technical familiarity with Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is preferred, and hands-on experience with MGS (Mitsubishi Generator Series), Doosan, and Kohler power generation systems is a major advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.  Generator Electrical Maintenance: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical faults on industrial diesel generators, heavy-duty alternators, automatic voltage regulators (AVRs), electronic governors, and control panels.

2.   Heavy Equipment Troubleshooting: Perform advanced electrical diagnostics on heavy construction machinery to isolate open circuits, short circuits, and communication network faults.

3.  Control Systems & Synchronization : Read, interpret engineering drawings, and exact manufacturer specification manuals for clearance, torque, and timing.

4. Electronic Integration: Read, analyze, and accurately interpret complex electrical wiring diagrams, circuit schematics, power distribution layouts, and CAN-bus network maps (J1939).

5.  System Programming & Calibration : Program and calibrate electronic control units (ECUs), engine management systems (EMS), digital displays, and parameters on both gensets and heavy equipment.

6.  Harness & Component Overhauling  :  Rebuild, repair, or replace damaged wiring harnesses, connectors, fuse blocks, starter motors, and electrical charging systems to OEM standards.

7.  Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, load test data, and diagnostic logs using asset management software, with a strong ability to write professional technical reports.

Skills and Competencies:

1.  Power Generation Expertise: Deep knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems, 3-phase electricity, load-banking, and digital generator control modules (e.g., Deep Sea, ComAp).

2. Heavy Equipment Electronics: Strong fundamental understanding of 12V/24V systems, multiplexing, CAN-bus architecture, sensors, and electronic control topologies.

3. Analytical Thinking: Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to trace multi-system electrical faults between primary engine power and auxiliary equipment systems.

4. Precision Tools: Proficient in using specialized diagnostic laptops, electronic scanners, communication adapters, digital multimeters, and insulation testers (Megger).

5. Safety & Compliance: Thorough understanding of electrical safety protocols, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, battery handling safety, and proper

Qualifications & Experience:

• Education: Diploma or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Automotive Electrics, or a related technical field.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as an electrical technician working specifically with industrial diesel generators and heavy construction equipment.
• Brand Specialization:   1. Proven track record working with Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) systems and software (e.g., Volvo Tech Tool) is strongly  preferred. 2. Direct experience servicing and troubleshooting MGS (Mitsubishi), Doosan, and Kohler generators is considered a significant advantage.
• Certifications: Certified Heavy Equipment Electrical Technician or equivalent .
Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in restricted or awkward physical positions while tracing wiring behind panels or under cabs.
• Capability to work in diverse environmental conditions, including both workshop settings and outdoor field locations.
