The Consultant in Fetal Medicine will provide expert diagnosis, management, and care for complex fetal conditions and high‑risk pregnancies. The role involves advanced fetal assessment, prenatal diagnostics, and interventional procedures, working closely with obstetricians, neonatologists, geneticists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes for both mother and baby.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive fetal medicine services for high‑risk pregnancies and complex fetal conditions.
- Perform detailed fetal assessments including anomaly scans, fetal echocardiography, Doppler studies, and genetic testing.
- Collaborate with maternal‑fetal medicine specialists, obstetricians, neonatologists, and other subspecialists to develop individualized management plans.
- Perform prenatal interventions such as fetal blood sampling, intrauterine transfusions, fetal shunt placement, and other indicated procedures.
- Provide clear, compassionate counselling to patients and families regarding fetal diagnoses, prognosis, and treatment options.
- Maintain accurate, detailed clinical documentation and ensure effective communication with patients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Stay current with advancements in fetal medicine and contribute to departmental research, publications, and academic activities.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical governance, and departmental meetings.
- Support training and mentorship of junior doctors, sonographers, and allied health staff.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Medical degree (MBBS/MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
• TIER 1 qualifications like CCT or CCST or American Board or Australian or Canadian or Irish board.
• Specialist qualification in Fetal Medicine from a recognized training program.
• Board Certification in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
• Minimum 5 years of post‑qualification experience in fetal medicine, preferably in a tertiary hospital or specialized fetal medicine unit.
• Proven expertise in advanced fetal imaging, prenatal diagnostics, and fetal interventions.
• Strong communication, counselling, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Fluency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
• Commitment to high‑quality patient care and continuous professional development.
• Eligible for DOH / HAAD license - Consultant level
