Job Purpose
The Senior Commissioning Engineer is responsible for leading complex commissioning activities, ensuring the integration of systems, and optimising performance in port and terminal service projects. This role involves hands-on troubleshooting, test execution, and coordination with project stakeholders to achieve successful installation & commissioning outcomes.
The role will lead the WCS site team and coordinate with contractors, and ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of clients.
Key Accountabilities
Responsible for deploying team and managing the project budget and schedule for all WCS projects that fall within this responsibility.
Management of Site Team
• Plan, manage and oversee the site electrical works undertaken by WCS
• Ensure works are completed on time and within budgets
• Plan and Schedule all works in close collaboration with WCS PMO
• Provide technical expertise and guidance and training to the WCS team ensuring specifications and quality standards are adhered to.
• Lead electrical & commissioning efforts for critical systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
• Conduct pre-commissioning and functional tests, identifying and resolving technical issues.
• Support the Lead of Electrical Systems in developing and executing commissioning plans.
• Provide technical expertise on control systems, power distribution, and automation.
• Collaborate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams for seamless commissioning execution.
• Document electrical & commissioning activities, preparing detailed reports and performance assessments.
• Participate in improving the processes of commissioning from the lessons learnt in previous projects.
• Train and mentor junior engineers, enhancing team capabilities.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies during commissioning processes.
• Manage relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery and cost-effective solutions
• Produce site daily reports & weekly project status reports
• Multi-Tasking in a fast paced environment
Tenders / Bids Preparation & Budgets
• Assist line manager to review bids & offers for clients regarding all project related works
• Assist with preparing budgets and estimates for potential future work
Safety Adherence
• Ensure personal contribution towards safety standards and implementation of safety policies across the WCS team globally acting as both an implementer where necessary and as a guide for others within the team.
• Ensure WCS safety standards are administered on site
WCS Ambassador
• Act as an ambassador of WCS at all times when engaging with clients, suppliers and contractors, ensuring and demonstrating positive behaviour, values and culture of WCS is promoted in all aspects of your work in an ethical manner.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics or Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering.
• Minimum of 7+ years of experience in commissioning for ports, terminals, or industrial facilities.
• Experience in commissioning port cranes and lifting equipment.
• Expertise in system integration, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation.
• Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
• Familiarity with automation and control systems, DRIVES, PLCs, and SCADA.
• Expertise in PLC programming and Drive parameterisation.
• Hands-On experience in Siemens and ABB systems is desired
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced project environment
• Good Project management skills
• Excellent Written and Verbal English Language skills.
• Confidence in communication at all levels within an organisation and well developed presentation skills.
