Position Overview
Manager, Drive Unit is responsible for a team of up to six full-time engineers in developing clear KPIs based on vision for the broader Resident Product Engineering group, mentor employees through technical/organizational challenges, develop talent, & create a thriving environment for employees to succeed. Partner with core engineering team leaders in workload prioritization, engineering decisions, & change management peer review/approvals
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a team of product engineers to address product & multi-variable problems within Drive Unit System in close collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Empower the team to solve complex component/system level problems using standard problem-solving techniques and Design of Experiments (DoE)
- Enforce data driven proactive problem solving, root cause analysis & issue avoidance due to process deviations or critical part quality issues
- Establish technical depth in Electric Drive Unit hardware & its interface with other systems within the team
- Create an environment of trust & efficient work culture within the team to deliver impactful results
- Manage conflicts/escalation from several functions in the plant with competing priorities
- Develop organizational processes and tools to improve productivity & enable the team to hold other functions in the plant accountable to meet design intent
- Empower the team to execute product change management to address known product compatibility issues for high volume production or known product design issues in production in close collaboration with core hardware engineering & other cross-functional teams
Skills
- Experience in using DFMEA, PFMEA, DVP&R, DFM, & RCA with cross-functional teams
- Prior experience in leading people & working in manufacturing environment
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) or certification in engineering fundamentals
- Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
- RedX apprentice/Journeyman certification
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering with 10+ years of automotive experience in design and release of vehicle attributes, or Master of Science degree with 8+ years of automotive experience
- Experience in product problem solving using 8D, 7 Step, RedX, DMAIC or similar methodologies
- Experience in setting clear KPIs & charter for the team from broader vision & mission statements
- Prior experience working as resident hardware engineer in a plant environment
- Technical depth in automotive drive unit assemblies & associated interfaces
- Proficient in electric drive unit EOL functionality tests & associated dynamometer test specifications
- Experience in product development or improvement of electric drive units & gearbox
- Proficiency in Catia or 3DX, stack up analysis (2D & 3D), and SQL
- Able to coach & develop talent through technical & administrative challenges
- Exceptional communication and documentation skills using Atlassian products
Compensation & Benefits: Lucid offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and disability coverage; paid time off; paid holidays, paid sick leave; and a 401(k) retirement plan. Hourly/non-exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid time off, and salaried/exempt employee accrue up to 160 hours paid time off. Eligible employees may also participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual cash incentive program. Incentive and equity awards, if applicable, are determined based on individual performance, role scope, market considerations, and overall company results, in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
