Job Description – Consultant Gastroenterologist
Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will provide expert diagnosis, treatment, and management of disorders affecting the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, and biliary system. The Consultant Gastroenterologist will perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures while delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care in accordance with DOH regulations and international clinical standards.
Responsibilities
• Diagnose, evaluate, and manage patients with acute and chronic gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders.
• Assess and treat conditions including:
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Peptic ulcer disease
• Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis)
• Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• Gastrointestinal bleeding
• Liver diseases, including hepatitis and cirrhosis
• Pancreatic disorders
• Gallbladder and biliary tract diseases
• Celiac disease and malabsorption disorders
• Gastrointestinal cancers and pre-malignant conditions

• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including:
• Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (EGD)
• Colonoscopy
• Flexible sigmoidoscopy
• Endoscopic polypectomy
• Hemostasis for gastrointestinal bleeding
• Esophageal dilatation
• Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) placement
• Endoscopic mucosal biopsy
• Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), where appropriately trained and credentialed
•
• Interpret laboratory investigations, pathology reports, radiological imaging, and endoscopy findings.
• Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor patients with chronic gastrointestinal diseases.
• Provide inpatient consultations and outpatient gastroenterology services.
• Collaborate with hepatologists, general surgeons, colorectal surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities.
• Supervise and mentor specialists, residents, fellows, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the hospital's electronic medical record system.
• Ensure compliance with DOH regulations, hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, endoscopy unit standards, and patient safety requirements.
• Participate in the departmental on-call rota and provide emergency gastroenterology services as required.Requirements
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Completion of an accredited residency in Internal Medicine followed by a recognized fellowship or subspecialty training in Gastroenterology.
- Fellowship/CCT/CCST/Arab Board/American Board/Canadian Board or equivalent qualification recognized by DOH for Consultant registration.
- Eligibility for or possession of a DOH Consultant Gastroenterologist License.
- Relevant post-qualification experience as per DOH Professional Qualification Requirements.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred.Benefits

Requirements
