The ENR portfolio is one of the most complex and strategically important sectors within the bank, covering large international energy companies, NOCs, IOCs, traders, midstream and upstream operators, and global subsidiaries. Transactions span reserve based lending (RBL), structured lending, large ticket corporate facilities, project adjacent structures, and cross border exposures including emerging markets and higher risk jurisdictions.
The VP plays a critical senior role in evaluating, structuring, and approving sophisticated ENR transactions. They are expected to operate with high autonomy, demonstrate leadership under pressure, exercise sound judgement, and manage senior stakeholders confidently — including coverage teams, product partners, ENR leadership, and external clients.

Key Accountabilities:
To lead the credit assessment, structuring, and recommendation of ENR credit facilities, ensuring high quality analysis, deep sector insight, and compliance with credit policies.
The VP ensures timely, well reasoned decisions, contributes to portfolio stability, and acts as a senior advisor and gatekeeper for complex ENR transactions across global markets.
Generic Accountability / Job Specific Accountabilities
A. Credit Assessment & Approval
• Prepare, review, and recommend high quality credit applications for ENR clients across upstream, midstream, downstream, oilfield services, and energy transition segments.
• Conduct deep dive assessment of reserve based lending (RBL) structures, borrowing bases, PDP/PUD profiles, hedging strategies, collateral quality, and forward looking liquidity tests.
• Evaluate complex cross border and high risk exposures (e.g., Africa, Venezuela, emerging markets) using mitigants such as CPRI, parent guarantees, structural protections, and covenants.
• Ensure proposals align with risk appetite and deliver strong risk adjusted returns.B. Stakeholder Management (Senior Level)
• Act as a senior partner to Coverage, Products, ENR Leadership, and external decision makers.
• Manage challenging conversations with conviction and professionalism - including declining transactions while preserving relationships.
• Represent ENR Credit in internal committees, discussions, and cross functional working groups.C. Portfolio Management
• Monitor early warning indicators and proactively drive remedial actions.
• Lead annual reviews for major ENR clients and ensure full compliance with conditions.
• Review production trends, commodity price sensitivities, CAPEX cycles, hedging positions, and field performance.
D. Structuring & Policy Development
• Contribute ENR expertise to policy revisions, including RBL policy updates, standards on asset diversification, break evens, and forward looking liquidity tests.
• Support model improvements, sector appetite papers, and thematic risk reviews (e.g., energy transition, geopolitical impacts).
E. Leadership & Succession
• Demonstrate “can do” attitude, ownership mindset, and solution orientation — traits repeatedly emphasized in VP level interviews.
• Mentor analysts and associates; elevate the overall technical capability of the ENR credit team.
• Act as succession pipeline for senior ENR credit leadership.
Specific Skills & Accountability:
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline.Preferred
• MBA, Master’s in Finance, CFA, or equivalent advanced qualification.
• Professional credit or banking certifications.Experience
• 10–15 years of relevant banking experience, with a minimum of 6+ years in ENR Credit / Energy Finance.
• Strong experience in reserve based lending, upstream/midstream credit analysis, structured finance, and cross border emerging market exposure.
• Proven record of handling high pressure, senior stakeholder environments.Technical Skills
• Deep ENR sector knowledge (upstream, midstream, downstream, LNG, petrochemicals, energy transition).
• Strong understanding of RBL structures, PDP/PUD analysis, hedging, breakeven economics, leverage full cycle ratios, and commodity price dynamics.
• Ability to assess complex structures: CPRI, parent guarantees, SPV based lending, covenant packages, liquidity models.
• Strong credit modelling and scenario analysis capability.
• Familiarity with corporate lending, syndicated facilities, derivatives, LCs, and structured lending.Behavioral Competencies
