Leading the future in luxury electric and mobility
At Lucid, we set out to introduce the most captivating, luxury electric vehicles that elevate the human experience and transcend the perceived limitations of space, performance, and intelligence. Vehicles that are intuitive, liberating, and designed for the future of mobility.
We plan to lead in this new era of luxury electric by returning to the fundamentals of great design – where every decision we make is in service of the individual and environment. Because when you are no longer bound by convention, you are free to define your own experience.
Come work alongside some of the most accomplished minds in the industry. Beyond providing competitive salaries, we’re providing a community for innovators who want to make an immediate and significant impact. If you are driven to create a better, more sustainable future, then this is the right place for you.
The Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer – Drive Unit will play a lead role in developing, launching, and sustaining automated test systems for Lucid’s electric Drive Unit manufacturing lines. This role is deeply embedded in high‑volume EV powertrain production and focuses on end‑of‑line (EOL) and in‑process testing of electric motors, inverters, and integrated Drive Unit assemblies. The engineer will partner closely with Design Engineering, Controls, Quality, Production, and external equipment suppliers to ensure robust, repeatable, and data‑driven test solutions.
You Will:
• Review and approve Drive Unit test specifications and change requests from design engineering, acting as the manufacturing test authority for motor, inverter, and integrated DU validation.
• Analyze and provide feedback on test sequences, limits, cycle time, process flow, and failure‑mode handling for Drive Unit EOL and sub‑assembly test stations.cycle time, process flow, and failure‑mode handling
• Design and own test system hardware for Drive Unit testing, including system layout, cabinet and rack design, connectorization, HV/LV routing, shielding, grounding, and thermal considerations to support high‑power EV components.
• Develop modular and scalable test applications with clear operator interfaces for Drive Unit testing, including parameter management, test sequencing, fault messaging, and data logging.
• Implement databases to manage Drive Unit test parameters, serial‑level results, traceability, and correlation to manufacturing and quality systems.
• Define DUT handling, fixturing, and electrical/mechanical interfaces for Drive Unit test stations, including HV safety interlocks and automated connection strategies.
• Collaborate with controls engineers to integrate test applications with station PLCs, dynos, and material handling systems, including responses to functional, electrical, and safety‑related failure modes.
• Lead sourcing, RFQs, supplier selection, build tracking, and technical oversight for externally supplied Drive Unit test equipment.
• Develop and execute commissioning and validation plans for Drive Unit test systems, including GR&R, red‑rabbit units, fault injection, and simulation of electrical, mechanical, and communication failures.commissioning and validation plans for Drive Unit test systems, including GR&R, red‑rabbit units, fault injection, and simulation of electrical, mechanical, and communicationcommissioning and validation plans for Drive Unit test systems, including GR&R, red‑rabbit
• Launch Drive Unit test systems into production and provide on‑floor support during ramp, including tuning limits, improving robustness, and reducing false fails.
• Train maintenance and operations teams on Drive Unit test station operation, error recovery, and troubleshooting.
• Partner with factory data and analytics teams to enable Drive Unit test data visualization, yield tracking, and long‑term quality monitoring.
You Bring:
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or similar preferred).
• 5+ years of experience developing and launching automated test equipment in high‑volume manufacturing environments.
• Direct experience testing EV Drive Unit components such as electric motors, inverters, or integrated motor‑gearbox assemblies.
• Strong understanding of high‑voltage and high‑current EV systems, including insulation resistance, hipot, functional power testing, and safety requirements.
• Hands‑on experience with Drive Unit EOL testing such as motor spin tests, inverter functional tests, resolver/encoder validation, phase resistance, back‑EMF, torque or speed verification, and dyno‑based testing.
• Detailed knowledge of electrical and electronic components, HV/LV connectors, cables, shielding, and grounding best practices.
• Ability to design electrical schematics using AutoCAD, EPLAN, or equivalent tools.
• Experience developing test hardware using National Instruments platforms such as PXI, cDAQ, or cRIO.
• Strong software development experience with NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, Python, MATLAB, or similar tools used in manufacturing test environments.
• Working knowledge of automotive communication protocols including CAN, CAN‑FD, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet.
• Proficiency using electrical test equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMMs, power analyzers, and motor/inverter diagnostic tools.
• Experience interfacing test systems with PLCs and industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP or OPC‑UA is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple test stations, suppliers, and launch timelines in parallel.
• Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, production, quality, and external suppliers.
