Job Description

The Senior Traffic Safety Engineer will oversee and manage traffic safety operations for construction and infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi. This role ensures compliance with local authority standards, such as Abu Dhabi Work Zone Traffic Management Manual (WZTM), and promotes a safe environment for road users, workers, and the public.

Key Responsibilities

Traffic Safety Planning and Design

• Develop, review, and approve Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCPs) in alignment with Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) regulations and the Abu Dhabi WZTM Manual.
• Plan and design safe work zones, including lane closures, detours, pedestrian routes, and staging for live traffic interfaces.
• Ensure traffic management plans are optimized for safety, efficiency, and minimal disruption to road users.Site Supervision and Compliance

• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure proper implementation of TTCPs, including signage, barriers, delineators, and lighting.
• Monitor contractor compliance with approved traffic safety plans and enforce corrective actions for non-compliance.
• Ensure all work zones meet safety standards for visibility, accessibility, and emergency response.Risk Management and Incident Response

• Identify and mitigate traffic-related risks through proactive hazard assessments and safety audits.
• Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
• Coordinate with contractors and stakeholders to ensure swift resolution of traffic safety issues.Stakeholder Engagement

• Liaise with Abu Dhabi authorities, including DMT, police, and other relevant agencies, to secure approvals and ensure compliance with local regulations.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including contractors, consultants, and utility providers, to align traffic safety measures with project requirements.Training and Capacity Building

• Deliver training sessions and toolbox talks to contractors and site personnel on traffic safety best practices, including work zone setup, device placement, and emergency protocols.
• Promote a safety-first culture by mentoring junior engineers and fostering awareness of traffic safety standards.Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain detailed records of traffic safety inspections, incident reports, and corrective actions.
• Prepare weekly and monthly traffic safety reports, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and compliance metrics.
• Update and maintain redline/as-built TTCPs for project documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation/Traffic Engineering, or a related discipline (Master's degree a plus, especially for senior-level candidates)
• Professional engineering registration/chartered status is often preferred (e.g., PE, CEng, or equivalent recognized by UAE authorities)
