The Senior Officer – Safety and Certifications supports the Safety and Certifications Senior Manager in ensuring compliance with the GCAA Aerodrome Certificate and GCAA regulatory requirements. The role is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving the Safety Management System (SMS), maintaining regulatory compliance, monitoring safety performance, managing safety documentation, and promoting a strong safety culture across the aerodrome.
Responsibilities
- Support the Safety and Certifications Senior Manager in maintaining the GCAA Aerodrome Certificate through the effective implementation and monitoring of the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Develop, review, update, and communicate safety policies, manuals, and procedures to ensure compliance with Aerodrome Certificate and GCAA regulatory requirements.
- Assist in developing strategic safety objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the aerodrome.
- Identify safety risks and escalate significant issues to senior management through appropriate safety review meetings.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, international standards, organizational objectives, and industry best practices.
- Monitor safety performance against established safety objectives and KPIs and prepare performance reports.
- Chair regular safety meetings and forums with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage and maintain the hazard reporting system and ensure timely closure of reported issues.
- Update and maintain Aerodrome and Safety Management System (SMS) manuals and procedures.
- Prepare safety reports, safety assessments, and safety cases for submission to senior management and the GCAA.
- Support the development and implementation of safety awareness campaigns and safety promotion initiatives.
- Monitor compliance with Aerodrome and SMS manuals while providing guidance and support to departments and stakeholders.
- Ensure significant operational changes are managed through the Management of Change (MOC) process. Requirements and Skills
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Safety Management, Aviation Management, or a related field).
- Relevant industry certifications, accreditations, or professional training acceptable to the business and role. Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant aviation safety or regulatory compliance experience. Skills & Competencies
- Strong ability to identify, evaluate, and mitigate operational safety risks.
- Sound knowledge of aviation regulations, GCAA requirements, and Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Experience maintaining safety certifications, regulatory documentation, and compliance records.
- Ability to prepare and evaluate safety assessments, safety cases, and technical reports.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to coordinate cross-functional safety initiatives and facilitate safety meetings.
- Proficiency in monitoring safety performance and reporting against established KPIs.
