Job Description
- Supervise and inspect geotechnical works: excavations, backfilling, compaction, embankments, foundations, shoring, dewatering, ground improvement, and retaining structures.
- Review and approve geotechnical method statements, ITPs, and inspection checklists; monitor contractor adherence in the field.
- Verify materials and workmanship against project specifications and standards (e.g., ASTM, BS, Eurocode 7, AASHTO, and applicable local codes).
- Witness and review field/lab tests: SPT/CPT, plate load tests, density/Proctor, permeability, Atterberg limits, consolidation, triaxial/UU/CU/CD, and aggregate compliance.
- Oversee deep foundation activities: pile installation, drilling, QA/QC records, integrity testing (PIT), dynamic/load tests, and as-built evaluations.
- Monitor instrumentation and geotechnical performance: settlement plates, piezometers, inclinometers, strain gauges; analyze trends and recommend actions.
- Assess temporary works and stability (excavation support, slopes, dewatering plans); flag risks and propose mitigations.
- Manage NCRs, punch lists, and corrective actions; track close-out and compliance.
- Review RFIs, shop drawings, MARs, and test reports; provide clear, timely technical responses.
- Prepare daily site reports, inspection records, photo logs, and weekly progress summaries.
- Coordinate with client, contractor, designers, and HSE teams to resolve issues and maintain safe operations.
- Support change management: evaluate geotechnical design changes, site constraints, and value engineering proposals.
- Contribute to handover: verify as-built documentation and compile geotechnical close-out packages.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering; Master's degree preferred
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification
- Minimum of 10 + years of experience in geotechnical engineering and site supervision roles
- Proven experience with large-scale construction projects in the UAE or similar environments
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, soil mechanics, and foundation engineering
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant engineering software
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex geotechnical challenges
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, in English
- In-depth knowledge of local building codes and regulations in Abu Dhabi and the UAE
- Familiarity with international geotechnical standards and best practices
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and adapt to changing project requirements
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety
