Job Overview

The Field Specialist II – Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, operation, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and rig-up/rig-down of MPD equipment at customer well sites.

The role provides hands-on operational support throughout MPD projects and works closely with the MPD Supervisor, Field Engineers, drilling contractor, and customer representatives to ensure MPD systems and equipment are properly prepared, operated, and maintained during well construction activities.

The Field Specialist II is expected to have a solid working knowledge of MPD equipment, Rotating Control Devices (RCD), MPD choke systems, pressure-control equipment, flow measurement systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, valves, and associated instrumentation. The position performs field activities with increasing independence, identifies and resolves routine technical and equipment issues, and escalates complex issues when required.

The role maintains a strong focus on HSE, equipment reliability, operational readiness, service quality, customer satisfaction, and reduction of equipment-related NPT in accordance with Weatherford procedures and industry standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform safe and efficient MPD equipment rig-up, operation, testing, commissioning, and rig-down according to approved procedures.
  • Operate and monitor MPD choke systems, RCD systems, flow measurement equipment, valves, pressure-control equipment, and associated systems.
  • Support MPD operations during drilling, tripping, casing running, cementing, and other well construction activities.
  • Conduct equipment inspections, function checks, preventive maintenance, and pre-job readiness checks.
  • Perform equipment pressure testing and document test results in accordance with approved requirements.
  • Troubleshoot routine mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and instrumentation issues and escalate complex problems to the MPD Supervisor or Field Engineer.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify abnormal pressures, leaks, equipment malfunctions, or unsafe operating conditions.
  • Read and interpret P&IDs, equipment drawings, manuals, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Support Field Engineers and MPD Supervisors with equipment setup, operational checks, data monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inspection, maintenance, pressure-test, and operational records.
  • Prepare and submit required field reports, service tickets, equipment logs, and other job-related documentation.
  • Participate in pre-job meetings, JSA/JHA, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and lessons-learned activities.
  • Maintain MPD equipment, work areas, facilities, hoses, fittings, and pressure-control connections in safe and serviceable condition.
  • Manage and monitor equipment inventory, spare parts, and consumables required at the well site.
  • Support equipment failure investigations and Root Cause Analysis activities.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers and provide professional service at the well site.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior Field Specialists when required.
  • Maintain effective communication with the MPD Supervisor, Field Engineers, drilling contractor, customer representatives, and internal support teams.
  • Remain available on a 24-hour call basis to respond to customer and operational requirements.
  • Comply with all Weatherford HSE, Quality, Security, Management System, and operational requirements.
  • Perform other duties safely as assigned by the supervisor within the physical requirements of the job.Skills:
  • Solid practical knowledge of Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Rotating Control Devices (RCD) and associated equipment.
  • MPD choke system operation and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of pressure-control equipment, valves, piping, hoses, fittings, and connections.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Understanding of flow measurement systems and associated instrumentation.
  • Ability to perform equipment rig-up, testing, commissioning, operation, troubleshooting, and rig-down.
  • Ability to perform pressure and function tests and accurately record results.
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs, equipment drawings, manuals, and operating procedures.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and basic electrical/instrumentation troubleshooting.
  • Ability to identify equipment abnormalities and take appropriate corrective action within established procedures.
  • Basic understanding of wellsite pressure-control and drilling operations.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary and multicultural rig teams.
  • Strong service orientation and customer focus.
  • Good time management and ability to prioritize operational tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to equipment reliability.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in changing operational conditions.
  • Physically capable of performing field and wellsite duties.
  • Strong commitment to HSE, quality, environmental protection, and operational discipline.Qualifications:
  • Technical Diploma, Associate Degree, or equivalent technical qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Petroleum, or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years of Oil & Gas field experience, preferably with relevant experience in MPD, drilling services, pressure control, or related wellsite operations.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with MPD equipment and wellsite operations.
  • Previous experience with RCDs, MPD choke systems, pressure-control equipment, flow measurement systems, or related equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to safely perform equipment rig-up, testing, operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and rig-down.
  • Good understanding of wellsite safety requirements and safe working practices.
  • Ability to work extended hours and rotational schedules in remote, onshore, and offshore environments.#LI-MD1
