Job Purpose
Ensures the availability of operating resources i.e. people, supplies and equipment. Includes planning and coordinating the utilization of labor and equipment consistent with efficiency, statutory, safety and environmental conditions.
Key Accountabilities
Tests validity of minable resources. Includes conducting preliminary surveys of mineral deposits with geologists to determine the feasibility of ore extraction. Determines the most suitable methods of ore extraction taking account of such factors as depth of over-burden, altitude and physical characteristics of deposits and surrounding strata.
Verifies recovery process. Consults with geologists, metallurgists and other engineers on the design, selection and provision of machines, facilities and systems for mining, infrastructure such as access roads, water and power supplies, and protection or restoration of the environment.
Estimates capital and operating viability. Prepares operation and project estimates and controls expenditure when mines come into production. Participates in negotiation for purchase or investment of new or existing mines.
Analyzes environmental sensitivities such as process being used, waste, chemicals, environmental/cultural, geo-political sensitivities.

Analyses and compiles monthly and yearly statistical production reports for Management’s review, comment and information.
Assists in ensuring adherence to the company's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) programs, policies and procedures. Monitors and audits activities, providing guidance and measures to alleviate unsafe or damaging work practices. Investigates and provides recommendations or responses to incidents in the assigned work area. Ensures that contractors working under his control are fully briefed on the company's HSE regulations.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
Minimum Experience:
4 years’ experience in mining engineering, including mine operations experience in differing Mining styles.
Skills:
Good knowledge of English.
