Job Purpose:
Ensure timely resolution of claims and demurrage expenses to secure maximum revenue. Develop and manage the annual plan for demurrage and claims. Lead and direct the demurrage and claims process and reporting system. Formulate the operating procedures, systems and programmes to meet annual plans and targets.
Key Accountabilities:
Strategy and Planning
Provide input to the annual plan of the BU and strategy of the BU related to the own unit. Assign tasks and oversee performance to ensure achieving the objectives in the annual plan and targets of the unit.
Operations
Develop and deploy effective demurrage and claims process and reporting system. Identify and make recommendations for compliance to industry legislative changes and improve efficiency. For the controlled fleet, maximize the amount received and for the spot vessels, minimize how much is paid to the vessel owner.
Leadership & People Management
Direct the team to set their annual objectives and assign tasks to the team members. Monitor daily activities in line with the assigned tasks.Train and coach team members and execute performance management for the team. Correct performance issues. Recruit qualified staff.
Concepts & Policies Adopt and apply new professional strategies and policies within the area of responsibility in accordance with management directions. Formulate the department’s operating procedures, systems and programs.
Process demurrage and claims
Review voyage terms and conditions to avoid terms or conditions detrimental to Bahri. Review claims for demurrage. Review unsettled claims and recommend legal action. Lead demurrage and claims negotiations with third parties.
Manage escalated claims
Monitor escalated or critical claims and ensure high level attention. Liaise with BU management, Legal and/or P&L and Claims on best approach.
Analyse and report
Analyse and review statistical analysis of demurrage and claims and issue periodic reports.
Represent company
Represent the Company to clients who raise spot demurrage and claims and create solid, cooperative and constructive relationships to identify customer needs and expectations and ensure total customer satisfaction.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Marine Transportation, Engineering or Business Administration
Minimum of 8 years Oil & Gas/tanker and shipping experience
