Consultant / Specialist Gastrointestinal Surgeon

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Consultant / Specialist Gastrointestinal Surgeon to join our leading healthcare facility in the UAE.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in gastrointestinal surgery, GI surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and the management of complex gastrointestinal conditions, with a commitment to safe surgical practice and excellent patient outcomes.

The successful candidate will work closely with gastroenterologists, oncologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, nutrition specialists, and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive gastrointestinal surgical consultations and pre-operative assessments.
• Diagnose and manage a broad range of gastrointestinal and abdominal surgical conditions.
• Develop individualized surgical treatment plans based on clinical findings, investigations, and patient needs.
• Perform elective and emergency gastrointestinal surgical procedures within the approved clinical scope.
• Perform open and laparoscopic GI surgical procedures as appropriate to clinical expertise.
• Manage patients presenting with acute abdomen, gastrointestinal bleeding, obstruction, perforation, and other surgical emergencies.
• Diagnose and manage conditions affecting the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, liver, gallbladder, biliary system, and other gastrointestinal structures.
• Perform appropriate procedures for conditions such as hernias, gallbladder disease, appendicitis, bowel disorders, and other gastrointestinal surgical conditions.
• Evaluate and manage patients with gastrointestinal cancers in collaboration with oncology and multidisciplinary teams.
• Review and interpret endoscopy reports, ultrasound, CT, MRI, PET imaging, laboratory investigations, and other diagnostic studies.
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and GI case discussions where required.
• Provide appropriate pre-operative counseling regarding surgical options, risks, benefits, expected outcomes, and recovery.
• Provide post-operative care and monitor patients for surgical complications.
• Manage post-operative complications and coordinate appropriate intervention when required.
• Coordinate nutritional and supportive care for patients undergoing major gastrointestinal surgery.
• Collaborate with gastroenterologists, medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists, and intensivists.
• Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and confidential patient records.
• Participate in emergency surgical services and urgent gastrointestinal case management where applicable.
• Maintain high standards of infection control, surgical safety, and patient care.
• Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, teaching, research, and continuing professional development.
• Follow applicable UAE healthcare regulations, professional standards, clinical guidelines, and facility policies.
MBBS, MD, or equivalent recognized medical qualification.

Recognized postgraduate qualification in General Surgery, Gastrointestinal Surgery, GI Surgery, or an equivalent surgical specialty.

Relevant post-specialization clinical experience.

Strong experience in gastrointestinal and abdominal surgery.

Demonstrated experience in laparoscopic and minimally invasive gastrointestinal procedures.

Strong clinical assessment and surgical decision-making skills.

Ability to manage complex elective and emergency GI surgical cases.

Good knowledge of modern gastrointestinal surgical techniques.

Excellent communication and patient-management skills.

Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
